Rachael Hornsby thought outside the box and, using a few of the Kawartha lakes as study sites, she is finding a way to incorporate the two. “Rachael’s research has already started to have positive impacts in reaching tournament organizers and participants to ensure that the activity remains economically significant while also protecting the resource that it is based on. She also concluded that the study of fish caught in a tournament setting is a viable option for sampling populations, and an effective tool to aid researchers in gathering data.”
