Kawartha Lakes has been picked as one of the rural communities that will receive funding under the Ontario government’s Main Street Revitalization Initiative. The city is getting $92,213 to put toward upping pedestrian safety through crosswalks and enhancing the downtown core by landscaping. The funds can also be used by local businesses to improve storefront appearances including signage and lights. Jeff Leal, minister of agriculture, food and rural affairs and the minister responsible for small business, announced the news in Toronto during the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference.
