The city wants to promote Kawartha Lakes and show the world what makes this part of mostly rural Ontario great by sharing images of the area with others. Perhaps it’s a photograph of a place such as the cobble-stoned main street of one of its towns. Maybe it’s an old-fashioned event such as an end-of-summer country fair. Perhaps it’s a renowned rural activity like snowshoeing on a remote trail in the winter. Or maybe it’s a nature scene such as a harvest moon in a balmy night sky, or a crimson sunset over a lake. These are the images that will help tell the story of Kawartha Lakes to people who’ve never visited.
“Kawartha Lakes is truly one of the province’s best-kept secrets. We want to change that,” said Kawartha Lakes Mayor Andy Letham.
That’s why the city is launching a new campaign to draw attention to Kawartha Lakes and all it has to offer. Kawartha Lakes Naturally will be a photographic experience featuring the best of the Kawarthas – from landscapes and agricultural land to nineteenth-century architecture and lookout towers within provincial parks. The city is asking residents and visitors to share their experiences by providing the municipality with high-resolution images of Kawartha Lakes.
“Almost everyone has a smartphone or camera with them constantly,” said Mayor Letham. “We want to see the photos that people feel make our area special and their favourite memories of Kawartha Lakes.”
The city will share photos submitted through its social media channels to showcase Kawartha Lakes. The city may also use photos within its publications and promotional material.
