Closing up for winter – the right way

Eeeek! Summer is coming to a close but no one is ready to hear the word winter yet. Still, it’s a good idea to start preparing for the cold months. Whether it’s your first winter with a cottage or you’re a seasoned vet, it doesn’t hurt to go over the information again. The very first and most important thing is to shut off the water AND drain the pipes. This includes the water heater. Unplug everything and leave the refrigerator doors open so it doesn’t get moldy. Shut off the gas, check the gutters, and turn that thermostat to 60 degrees. One of the best things you can do is check on your cottage periodically, so if you are unable to do so try asking a friend.
