Some Carden-area residents were asked to evacuate their homes and cottages Friday afternoon as the threat of a forest fire grew near Dalrymple. Area farmer Alyssa McCartney told This Week she had prepared her herd of cattle and horses in anticipation. “I have the trucks ready to go,” she said. “We heard that lightning caused it and that the fire was smouldering during the night.” Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Platoon Chief Bill Lockwood couldn’t confirm the cause, but said as of 4 p.m. on Friday, efforts were still underway to contain the fire.
