It’s Fire Prevention Week in Kawartha Lakes

Date: 10/08/2015
“This year’s theme is ‘Hear the Beep where you Sleep”, said Fire Chief Mark Pankhurst. “We are encouraging homeowners and residents to make sure they have working smoke alarms that are aud-inline-blockle in every bedroom.” Half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. when most people are asleep yet only one in five home fires were reported during these hours. “Statistics show that one-quarter of home fire deaths was caused by fires that started in the bedroom,” said Chief Pankhurst. “Another quarter resulted from fires in the living room, family room or den. Three out of five home fire deaths happen from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.” Chief Pankhurst stressed the importance of ensuring working smoke alarms are present on every floor and that they are regularly tested to ensure the batteries are working properly. “In any fire, time is critical, and the early warning that a working smoke alarm can provide is invaluable,” he said. “Having a working smoke alarm on every level of your home, outside each sleeping area and in each bedroom is extremely important and may save your life.” For details, please click on the following link to view the infographic: Hear the BEEP where you SLEEP
