A book was written by a local cottager right here in Kawartha Lakes. MyKawartha reported, "Since her first visit, Shimano has kept some type of memento from the CNE. It wasn’t long before Shimano found herself doing a bit of research and discovered that every piece had a story." If you want to read about these stories, Lee Shimano's book can be found at Antique’s & Artisans Kawartha Lakes Market, Kinmount Artisans Marketplace, and Merry Macs. It would be a great book to keep around the cottage!
Lee Shimano may spend half the year in the Kawartha Lakes, but her "second home" is the Canadian National Exhibition. In fact, Shimano can't think of a time when she wasn't at the CNE. "Maybe when I was a baby, but then I don't remember much from then," joked the Toronto native. Growing up, for two weeks every August, Shimano could be found at the CNE often as both a spectator and a worker. She helped park cars, making 75 cents an hour, and also worked at a midway food vendor earning 90 cents an hour.
