Police sending a message

Taking shortcuts could cost you big. On a shortcut around the construction on Highway 35, Kawartha Lakes Police have issued almost 40 tickets to trucks exceeding the weight limit. "As of the afternoon of Oct. 16, 39 drivers were charged with exceeding the 4,455 kg weight restriction and another nine were cautioned, Mitchell said. As well, there have been 27 speeding charges, 12 speed cautions and three charges for other offences." This construction may be an inconvenience, but it isn't worth a ticket or anyone's safety to break the rules. Stay safe, everyone!

Police in Kawartha Lakes cracking down on trucks, speeders using detour shortcut

LINDSAY — Kawartha Lakes Police Service say they’ve issued 39 tickets to truck drivers ignoring weight restrictions on a shortcut around the Highway 35 construction closure, south of Lindsay. Insp. Mark Mitchell said there would continue to be an increased police presence in the area until Highway 35 is reopened next month. The highway was closed Sept. 25 in order to replace the Stoney Creek culvert near the Mount Horeb Road exit.
