Sleigh Ride Allows Crowd to Experience Balsam Lake Provincial Park in its Winter Glory
Date: 02/18/2014
Kids and adults alike loved being whisked by a two-horse team through the provincial park on this bracing winter day. It was a lovely, sunny afternoon for a sleigh ride. Our sleigh was driven by Ivy, a sturdy twelve-year old horse, and her five-year old son, Scout, who seemed game to break into a gallop if allowed the chance. The oncoming wind felt raw when the horses trotted briskly.
After the sleigh ride, we warmed up with complimentary hot chocolate and hot dogs.
It was also off-peak season for the provincial park. Visiting a tourist hot spot like Balsam Lake Provincial Park in the cold-weather months allows you to take in its pristine beauty without the hustle and bustle of hordes of other visitors.
The Coboconk Lions Club hosted the sleigh ride, which was held from 1-3 p.m. on February 16. Those who participated in the free event were encouraged to bring a donation for the local food bank.
