Updated Guide Takes the Guess Work out of Finding Local Products in the Kawarthas
Date: 07/29/2015
A joint venture between the City of Kawartha Lakes economic development department and Peterborough's economic development department, the guide highlights participating members in the following categories:
farms
agritainment (farm-based entertainment including activities such as hayrides, pony rides, wine tasting, cornfield-maze contests, and harvest festivals)
restaurants
retail
farmers’ markets
food services
The guide features a regional map showing the locations for each member, as well as a useful product listing to help with locating specific foods and items more quickly. In this way, the guide helps to connect consumers and cottagers alike with local growers and producers.
"Shoppers are very eager to support our local farms and producers," said Kelly Maloney, agriculture development officer and acting director of economic development for the City of Kawartha Lakes. "The Kawartha Choice FarmFresh brand was created to help consumers identify local farm products, and the guide showcases what a great variety we grow and produce here in the Kawartha buy-local region. We are extremely pleased to now have it updated and released."
Approximately 20,000 copies of the guide are available at City of Kawartha Lakes municipal service centres and libraries and the Kawarthas Tourism Visitor Centre, as well as through local tourism partners and at member locations.
Complementing the updated guide, a revitalization of the KawarthaChoice.com website is scheduled to begin at the end of July.
